The Biology Of Hope-Supporting The Lungs & Heart
The pace of modern life keeps the nervous system in a near-constant state of activation. Over time, this chronic stress impacts not only the heart, but also the breath, tightening the chest, shortening respiration, and limiting the body’s ability to fully oxygenate. Yoga offers a way to gently down-regulate this reactivity, supporting both cardiovascular and pulmonary health.
Today’s asana practice will be about coronary tuning and healthy lung functioning. Sequences are designed to rotate these organs in all directions using props, gravity and breath control with necessary modifications for individual adaptation. Asana and pranayama reduces systemic tension and respiratory strain. Through consistent practice, we cultivate not just longevity but a more easeful way of aging. Where body, breath, and awareness work in harmony, we maintain vitality through the years.
This weekend workshop with master teacher Gabriel Halpern will begin with a dharma discourse “We Were made For These Times.” Bewildered about the state of affairs in the world now? Yoga invites you not to spend your spirit bewailing these difficult times. We’ve have been learning, practicing, and in-training just waiting for this moment of engagement. Yogic practice calms the tumult within, teaching how to catch the light from other souls who are fully lit and then be willing to embody that oneself. It's not given to us to know which acts, or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. Do not lose hope. We were made for these times.
