Twists: Yoga’s Spiral Energy
In addition to flexion and extension (forward and backward bending), the spine can also rotate around its own axis. This workshop will teach a variety of poses showing the versatility of twists. Whether done supine, prone, sitting, sitting, or inverted, yoga students claim to have found relief from headaches, neck aches, shoulder tightness, lower back pain, and stiffness in the hips and knees, As the trunk turns, the inner organs are activated, nourished, and flushed which improves digestion and removes sluggishness. As a result, the spine becomes suppler and all of the joints move more easily and smoothly, free from friction.
This weekend workshop with master teacher Gabriel Halpern will begin with a dharma discourse “We Were made For These Times.” Bewildered about the state of affairs in the world now? Yoga invites you not to spend your spirit bewailing these difficult times. We’ve have been learning, practicing, and in-training just waiting for this moment of engagement. Yogic practice calms the tumult within, teaching how to catch the light from other souls who are fully lit and then be willing to embody that oneself. It's not given to us to know which acts, or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. Do not lose hope. We were made for these times.
