One of the primary goals of yoga is to create stability. To bring balance to a traditional yoga practice, experienced yoga students can benefit from adding a strength building focus to increase stability and reduce the risk of injury. Learn how to incorporate natural movement into your yoga practice to become stronger, stabilize your joints and support a full range of functional movement. You will discover that as your range of motion increases from yoga, developing strength from natural movement will support that greater flexibility and improve stability.

In this weekend workshop, you will learn:
  • The key natural movements that are valuable to add to your daily yoga practice.
  • The importance of ground movement for building hip, core and shoulder strength.
  • How to incorporate multidirectional movement to support joint health.
  • To improve your balance using a slightly raised height (2x4 beam).
  • Transitions to get you up and down from the ground without using your hands (alternatives to down dog and “do a vinyasa”)
  • The principles of neurodevelopmental sequencing that can provide a logical progression of movement strategies.
  • What yoga philosophy teaches us about strength and stability.
  • How breathing supports steadiness in movement, posture and relaxation.
  • How to integrate techniques from other mindful modalities and make them yoga.

Who is this workshop for? Experienced yoga students and yoga teachers ready to expand on traditional yoga. Not recommended for those with current injuries. Counts as 12 hours of continuing education with Yoga Alliance.


Please bring: 6 foot round yoga mat (available from online yoga retailers such as yogaaccessories.com) or 2 rectangular yoga mats.


Lori Gaspar, MA, C-IAYT, 500 E-RYT, YACEP, MovNat Trainer, is the Founder of Prairie Yoga® and Yoga for Strength and Stability®. Known as a "teacher of teachers" – she developed the yoga teacher training curriculums that have trained over 700 yoga teachers in the Midwest. Her current teaching integrates natural movement to bring more strength and stability into the yoga practice. Lori is a certified yoga therapist, writes for a number of yoga publications, served on Yoga Alliance’s Ethics and Standards Advisory committees and was named by Yoga Chicago as an outstanding woman leader in Chicago’s yoga community. She has been featured in Yoga International, Voyage Chicago, Mantra Yoga+Health, Yoga Chicago, and Yoga Teacher Magazine.
